New England potter Candace Hixon, with a masters degree in ceramics, founded La Vista Tile in 1994 to specialize in ceramic trim tile and painted tile murals . As it was for Buddy, concrete paved the way to independence from firing a kiln. After her exposure to Buddy Rhodes at The World of Concrete, Candace attended Buddy’s advanced class in San Francisco where she discovered his material worked vertically as well as horizontally. As a ceramicist, she found it also could be shaped, carved and formed in many ways like clay.

La Vista Tile now not only makes unusual concrete tile, but wall art, counter tops, sinks, and furniture. The work is a testimony to the love of both clay and concrete.
