Three Day BRCP Comprehensive Workshop
This class is designed to give each student a gloves-on experience that now includes an extra day to cover templating and installation in detail, offering students an opportunity to create an actual countertop to be installed in place on Day 3. You will design, template, build a mold, measure, mix and color concrete to fill the mold, de-mold, grind and polish the countertop, and install it in place at Buddy Rhodes' new San Francisco headquarters: a work in progress. Each step can be adapted to the participant's own project back home. This workshop is appropriate for all levels of experience, as classes are kept small and individualized according to student needs. You will leave class with three full days of hands-on experience with a minimum of one experienced instructor per every four students. All of the possible methods currently employed by commercial concrete fabricators will be explored: pressed, trowelled, ground, pour-and-vibrate, and introductory GFRC - upside down and right side up, pre-cast and cast-in-place.

4 Day Workshop: 3-D Mold Making with Fabric Flow Forming

Designed for those with experience and are ready to take design and mold making skills to the next level. This class is project oriented and will take students through the following:

• Designing molds using 3-D rendering software.
• Making custom molds with rubber/fabric forming/plaster/fiberglass/curved materials
• Fabric Flow Forming - See below for more information about this portion of the class.
• Projects will be fabricated using a variety of techniques, including:
  • GFRC Spraying
  • Pressed technique
  • Pour and Vibrate
• Reinforcement options will be discussed
• Installation

Trainers Nick Relampagos and Brandon Gore will be assisted by longtime Buddy Rhodes assistant Joshua Cruz to complete the expert team. Buddy Rhodes will join them as concrete artisan emeritus.

Here is what Brandon Gore has to say about the Fabric Flow Forming portion of the class:

FLOW Fabric-Forming is a term I coined for creating pieces where the finished product is draping, elegant and unconfined. The fabric is not stretched taught, as I teach in my traditional fabric-forming workshops; instead, the fabric is loose and conveys much more motion and energy. This level of fabric-forming is at the forefront of upscale pre-cast concrete. It’s uses are infinite - sinks, wall panels, furniture, planters, and the list goes on.

In this workshop we will handcraft one AMAZING furniture piece. What is it, you ask? I can’t tell you, it is a surprise, so you’ll have to attend to find out! You will see the project through from inception, forming, casting, and de-molding.
